The court stated that to sustain a generic patent, it is not necessary that the device be a commercial success, and it is enough that the patented machine, though imperfect in operation, embodies the generic principle, and actually and mechanically performs, though in a crude way, the important function by which it makes the substantial change claimed for it in the art.
